This teaches the arch to do some actual work without clawing the toes. Keep it gentle. The goal is subtle control, not a cramp contest.

3. Calf raises within tolerance

Stronger calves help control loading through stance and push-off, but do not hammer these if they provoke the painful joint. Use two legs if needed and keep the range tolerable.

4. Ankle mobility and balance work

If your ankle is stiff, your foot often has to compensate somewhere else. Better balance and ankle control can clean up gait without forcing motion directly into the arthritic spot.
